Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior

On January 17, Enterprise Bank joins our nation in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the great civil rights leader known for his dream—a dream of peace and equality that still resounds today in the lives of all who dare to seek a more just and equitable world.

As the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, Martin Luther King Day is more than a symbolic day of celebration. It is a day of reflection and action, a day to address the “do-nothingism” Dr. King references in his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” urging the complacent to stand together against oppression and injustice.

We take those words seriously at Enterprise Bank, where “do-nothingism” is never an option. We are proud of the culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion that we have created here, but we strive always to do better. We take seriously the responsibility to turn our company’s core founding principles—fairness, equality, respect, inclusion, and love—into meaningful and ongoing action that will ensure that this progress is a sustained movement and not just a moment.

We are proud of the work of Enterprise Bank’s Inclusion Council, which is deeply committed to helping influence and impact positive change towards social justice and inclusivity within the communities we serve. “The Series on Racial Equity and Inclusion,” a community series in collaboration with several wonderful community partners, is creating a safe space to promote constructive engagement and broaden our perspectives. We invite you to learn more about the series, including the most recent topics addressing Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace, Changing the Racial Composition and Culture of Your Board, and Courageous Conversations.

Enterprise Bank is proud to support the Living the Dream Partners and serve in planning a virtual celebration and call to action taking inspiration from the teachings of Dr. King, premiering on YouTube at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 17. As Dr. King said, even small actions can lead to big changes. We invite you to join us in coming together to reflect on how we can all take action to create a more equitable community, stand up for civil rights, and fight against institutional racism. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Living the Dream Partners Scholarship.

Our Enterprise Bank team members created this video to share the many ways we take action to create greater opportunity for people of color and treat all people with love and respect.

Dr. King once said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.” As we pause to celebrate his legacy, I hope that we can all put his inspiring words into action as we work toward a brighter and more equitable future for all.

“The time is always right to do what is right.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
